yea but a couple good albums doesnt mean the genre is still alive to me. like i said there are still good prog rock albums coming out now, but most of the good ones just rip off the 70s. the rest is shit like karnivool. so yes like prog I can say that sludge is pretty much dead, but that doesnt mean there still arent a couple solid albums coming out.



you can find good albums coming out of every genre essentially. its like death metal is pretty dead too and has been for a while. there are still a couple new releases guys here dig but for the most part they just sound like odsm. besides ulcerate there hasnt been many death metal bands that really added something new to the genre while being awesome.

and portal is prob one of the more creative new death metal bands too. not many others though. maybe like flourishing? idk im not as into it as others but most of the new dm stuff i check out is derivative as fuck.

Riverside, Echolyn, Oceansize, Pure Reason Revolution, Beardfish, Spock's Beard, Phideaux, Indukti, Lunatic Soul, Gazpacho, RX Bandits, Koenjihyakkei, Circle, Alamaailman Vasarat, Hidria Spacefolk, Wobbler, Diagonal, Guapo, Frost*, Hostsonaten, Amplifier, Big Big Train, Arena, Crippled Black Phoenix, Thinking Plague, Moon Safari, Pendragon, Astra, The Flower Kings, Gordian Knot, Anekdoten, mirthkon, Haken, Hypnos 69, and Discipline put out some good progrockish albums since 2000.



But yea obv id rather just listen to the old stuff. prog rock is pretty much dead but theres alot of prog influence in other things now.
