"True, true. Hard to believe that such small areas in terms of land mass have such a huge amount of diversity amongst their people."
I don't find that hard to believe, I think that actually makes more sense. But I'm German and we were over 300 kingdoms once so eh. Plus, all that delicious, versatile bread.
But I mean it makes considering the history. Hell, this shithouse of a village I live in is 5 times as old as the U.S. I think we even have a tree here that is older.

Lol, now that I think about it, it does kinda make sense. Especially when you look at how many different American tribes there were before....... Well, you know.

Well, the U.S. is also a country as big as Europe. (with much less useful space, especially at the times when the pilgrims arrived)
Plus it's pretty much an "artificial country" that whose basis is a sampled patchwork-culture.

All true. It all culminates in the main question: Is unification/centralization for the better or worse?

Kind of a useless question, really. Because it depends on the specifics. And as with most things, has its up- and downsides. I mean the U.S. is pretty much working against itself in terms of governance, the whole "power diffusion" and "autonomy"-thing may be a bit outdated. I mean it could work if, in specific contexts - the reaction would be appropriate and you could have some streamlining instead of stonewalling everything. The whole "cooperation" (or adequate negotation aka compromises) thing is also a lacking department.

The best example of how inefficient shit gets was the government shutdown last year.

Ah, yes. The whole "compromising" process within the government. Didn't work over slavery back in the 1800's, and most certainly doesn't work for other issues now.

That's what happens when you try to follow a blueprint that's a few hundred years old without a lot of deviation and don't adjust to changes. Same thing that has kicked the catholic churches' butt.

wait so are we invoking off the pill randomness, fish? PANZERKRIEG AM AM LUFTWAFFELHAUS, ERDNUSSBOMBER AN DIE FRONT, HIMBEERHAUBITZEN FLANKIEREN!

I was actually talking about the air waffle house (Luftwaffe => Luftwaffel), the peanutbutter bombers and the raspberry artillery. The only thing they'll annihilate is stomache if you eat all of them at once.

by the way, here the close to literal translation:"TANK WAR AT THE AIR WAFFLE HOUSE, PEANUT BOMBERS TO THE FRONTLINES - RASPBERRY ARTILLERIES TO THE FLANKS!"

Oh yeah, I always forget we share our love for pastries with France. Not gonna lie, I love myself a good baguette. (especially sour dough) Particularly for barbecues or grilled cheese 'sandwiches'.

I actually don't know what that is. We've got more of the standard stuff and our gazillion variations of bread. And tons of cakes/pies. (Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte/Black Forest Cake mhmmm)
