"they're Ukrainian nationalists and they don't (didn't???) like the jeeeeeeewwwwws, but they're not nazis per se."
they also grew up in pre-internet eastern bloc europe. I can look beyond their past ideologies all things considered. The socio-economic conditions that they surely found themselves surrounded by during their formative years obviously lent a big hand in their worldview at the time. They've long since denounced those old ways of thought (as they should have) but still unfairly get lumped-in with bands that are still national-socialists despite having every opportunity in the modern age of technology to enlighten their abject ignorance. Its kind of tragic in a way, and a perfect example of how most people really don't bother to examine the circumstances that foster certain ways of thinking if they don't immediately coincide with their own predispositions.

Yeah, like well over a decade ago. The real irony here is that people who hate them today for their past ideologies in an age where knowing better wasn't much of an option are probably more ignorant than the band members themselves are. Like if you grew up as a silver-spoon fed trustfund kid from the american midwest of course you'll have no idea how to relate to someone who grew up in a world that would utterly terrify your four-ply toilet paper wiped ass, but at least try to understand how people around the world might have different beliefs shaped by rough circumstances and lack of information beyond their immediate spheres of influence. Nazi might piss me off, but people who are so blatantly hinged on their biases that they forego critical thought also piss me off.

I'm just messin with you bud, but taking wikipedia quotes with a grain of salt "In 2008, the band's singer and guitarist, Knjaz Varggoth, claimed that he had no interest in political tendencies and had never viewed Nokturnal Mortum as a political band."
