I wouldn't say its a leap over their other recent efforts. Then again I'm one of those hopeless mutants that even found enjoyment in Risk. If I was to go over the last 5 albums I'd say
Risk - Decent
TWNAH - Rather Bad
System has Failed - Decent
Abominations - Excellent
Endgame - Decent
I'd certaintly give you the production improvement as you pointed out in your review the sound is very crisp and clear. The social commentary aspect not so much as even by Mustaine standards the lyrics go beyond incisive observation into full blown crazy conspiracy theory.

The problem with Countdown is that when I want to hear Megadeth I want thrash, and when I want to hear some "regular" metal it's not going to be Countdown.

Endgame - Decent I'm surprised that you'd find Abominations to be an excellent album, but dislike this one. I thought that this one did everything Abominations did, but better.
