I have a really hard time believing anything by The Zombies is better than S-tier BB material, so I guess I gotta bump Odessey & Oracle. Thank you Google Play subscription

O&O has a strong Pet Sounds vibe to it but with added Beatles and Moody Blues influence given the mellotron and some more psychedelic rock influence. "Time of the Season" is the most uniquely Zombies track on it, hearkening back to "She's Not There." Great stuff but yeah never made me break down and cry like Pet Sounds.

o&o is nothing short of a masterpiece imo. and time of the season is far from the best song

Didn't say it was, read it again. My favorite is "Hung up on a Dream" which is just mellotron overload!

i disagree with that assertion as well lol. i think they have quite a few songs that could define them. maybe it's due to it being overplayed, or maybe i didn't think that highly of it to begin with, but i consider it one of the weaker tracks on the album. not bad by any means, but oftentimes when i get to it on the album i just stop playing it.

That's fine, just talking in terms of sound. My second favorite is Care Cell 44, but I honestly think it sounds pretty similar to Wouldn't Be Nice. On the other hand, the heavy bass, jazzy-pscyedelic style of those aforementioned songs is very uniquely Zombies from what I've heard.

"Time Of The Season" is overrated, especially compared to the rest of the album

yeah but that harmonic minor note at the end "It's the time of the season for lovIIIIIING" that rules bro

Okay so after my first sesh, O&O is pretty damn great hands down, but it's heavily influenced by Pet Sounds/Revolver even though it stands on its own with songwriting, musicianship and their unique melodic progressions. It's amazing no doubt, but it's more of a spin/derivative of what was going on at the time, although I'd probably put this in the top 5 of 60's records easily.
TL;DR it's not Pet Sounds but it comes really close, and it definitely edges up to or outright smokes most of The Beatles' catalogue

Another album in the same vein that I'm trying to get people hooked on is The Millenium - Begin. The first 3 songs are like the greatest thing ever.

I don't think o&o really sounds that much like this.
