Listening to this properly for the first time in years, I had completely lost sight of how fucking immense it is.

I guess this isnt that interesting compared to BoC or AE but it dowsnt need to be.its just so hypnotic and chilled. Easy to either get lost in or just have as background music.plus it grooves hardsr than most... total classic

We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;—
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

This is the type of music that can change your life. If you really let it , it has the potential to let you see something so deep and hidden within you. It is that colossal. This album is magnificent in every single way, if the songs weren't as long and repetitive as they are, then the feeling wouldnt of been fully captured.
People complain about repetition, but they really dont understand its implications. And for music like this, repetition is its life cycle , its pulse.

I read this as "if you're gonna rate this album because you heard it, you probably shouldn't listen to it", thus negating the rating (and of course, the entire statement) all together. Is this what everyone else got? Lets compare notes

Nah what I mean is if youve accepted the album to be mediocre then just dont bother trying to listen to it, cuz its obviously music youre not into.

My least favorite Aphex album. It has a few pleasant tracks that I'll go back to every once in a while but as a whole it just seems really rudimentary and repetitive. Then again, I wasn't a fan when this was released and my first real introduction to his music was with the Richard D. James album. Listening to SAW 85-92 after that just sounded like a gigantic leap backwards into mediocrity despite it being one of the more revolutionary electronic releases of its time.
One thing that really impresses me about it, however, is the fact that some of these songs were made by a 14 year-old. Usually that kind of shit would be lucky to find its way onto the parents' refrigerator. Instead its regarded by many as some paradigm-shift in composition. SAW II is still like 5x better than this will ever be though.
