I personally prefer Alaska.
Just a tad too much cheese going on here for my tastes.
I also think part of what makes The Silent Circus and Alaska so great is the "OMG" moments.
Like the first really black metal part of The Primer, All Bodies ending chorus, "IT'S RAAAAININGGGGG," Alaska intro and of course, Selkies in its entireity.
This album is very consistent, yes, but it's not a good thing IMHO.
There's so much that's impressive on this album that it ultimately becomes less so.
Heavy music becomes much heavier when you contrast it with something softer and the same applies to technicality.

This still owns, but you can have too much of a good thing, and I think btbam over-indulged a bit on this album.
Also, Alaska plays better as songs on their own as well as a start-to-finish kind of album.
Colours only really works as one long song.
Still solid though.
