Someone else somewhere itt compared it to a more cringe MCR and I can totally see it. The chorus is fine mostly in that one but the verses are so awful. Hate his vocal inflections or whatever you want to call it. Not into the super exaggerated vocals and the rhythm of it. Unironically worst song on the album imo. His voice bothers me elsewhere too but I can mostly overlook it, and I rly like the harsher stuff they do.

Yeah it’s a cadence thing. From day 1 the vocals have been the only real barrier to entry for me. Dude is clearly a talented vocalist and I love the harsher stuff, but the cleans are often extremely exaggerated, ends up sounding very forced and idiosyncratic for the sake of it, to me

I think that the melodrama in the cleans is perfectly balanced here and adds to the character. I'd much rather this than the over the top melodrama of later post hc bands like La Dispute and Touche Amore. While I understand the lyrics/vibe of those bands is personal to many people, the presentation can be a bit much and border on feeling like parody at times
