Even though Tool and Meshuggah both make progressive metal, I think they are too different to compare.

Ford bro plz never mention the legendary Meshuggah in the same breath as this sorry monstrosity of a band again idk if my heart could take it.

hahaha! Can't wait for the day Tool clicks with you again Hawks (if that day ever comes...)
|
| |
Again? They have never clicked bro. This band and Dream Shitter are the bowel and fecalmatter of the metal genre.

Rofl. No way man! hahaha! Dream Theater have at least three superb albums in my book.
|
| |
Just not my style at all lol.
|

You ever jam King Crimson, hawks bro? Check out their album Red
|
| |
I jammed them years and years ago before I ever really expanded my taste out from exclusively metal so I definitely need a King Crimson refresher.

Saw Meshuggah open for tool on this tour, twice. Fucking amazing live, heavy and intense like gojira live.
This is probably my personal favorite album of all time. Had such a huge effect on me.

Damn what a shitty look for the Shug touring with this monstrosity of a band.

I’ve seen some great opening acts for tool over the years. Fantomas (was on shrooms, shit was absolutely bonkers), Meshuggah, Tricky (surprisingly great), The Killing Joke—I know there are a few more. But these were on the Lateralus and 10k days tours mostly. I haven’t been impressed with most of their opening acts of recent, but Elder was pretty good too.
Deftones tends to have good opening acts too — poppy, Dillinger escape plan, incubus (co headlining) — all fucking great.

Like, Tool is obviously pretentious and can get pretty self indulgent, but it feels like the guys in that band have some sense of self awareness. The Dream Theater guys just seem like they’re all lost so far up their own asses without a map.
And the music fucking sucks

incessant chugging troglodytism is not progressive nor is it music
meshuggah is regressive metal

I've always wanted to check out Tool, they're obviously insanely popular amongst you guys. I've just never vibed with their sound though. I'm wondering if this album is a good stepping-in point?
