"This album shows them deepening their sound instead of broadening it. Rather than breaking new ground, they dug into the ground beneath their feet and found gold. Stylistic and thematic seeds they planted as far back as the OKC and Kid A eras are suddenly bounties of rich fruit, which they have arranged with beautiful strings and lovely production. They decided to look back for once, instead of always forwards, and did some modern spins on old sounds (and even old songs). I personally can't fault them for this approach, when the results sound so good."
I also feel this is a very Radiohead kind of album, where outside influence is mostly reduced to minor occurrences here and there (like the brazilian Bossa Nova influence on Present Tense). However, it resulted in a very consistent and enjoyable album, so no complaints from me

Really, really hope the next one is better than this or TKOL because both were very underwhelming to say the least. Nobody can tell me with a straight face that either is even in the same league as OKC, Kid A, In Rainbows, The Bends, Or even HTTT. Both albums feel like reheated leftovers.

TKOL is for the mind, this is for the heart. Here's hoping the next LP caters to both, like In Rainbows did

You could say it like that. Agreed, that would be awesome. I don't expect an album before 2021 though

The second half of TKOL has some of their most beautiful, heartfelt songs though.
The live from the basement version of The King of Limbs lives up to their classic albums and IR to me, especially if you add Supercollider and The Butcher.

Codex is one of their best songs, I will say that.

I edited my above comment. Comparing for the first time in a while, there might only be 3-4 songs that are actual improvements on the live from the basement version. I think I like the idea of more of the songs from those sessions being included with the initial 8 songs, like Staircase, The Daily Mail, Supercollider, and The Butcher, all of which are included in the LftB version besides the Butcher, and Supercollider is a bonus track, but I'd just count it anyway. That's a 9/10 album right there, maybe even a 10/10 with The Butcher and These are my Twisted Words included, if you could get all 13 songs to flow together cohesively. Just having the 8, and with Bloom not being its full potential like it is live, feels a little underwhelming knowing that at least 5 more songs came from those sessions.

Basement TKOL is definitely best TKOL. But still only brings it up to a 3.5 from a 3 for me. I should give it another shot. There must be something I’m not seeing in it.
