In 1973, life was better, but not really. I went to a slumber party when I was 9 and I didn't know anyone, we had just moved to Tempe and my Mother, Judith, was trying to get me "out there" to meet people. At 9 years old I didn't want to meet people. I just wanted to read books about exotic moths and figure out what exactly happens in the cocoon; the duality between the physical and the transcendental in slumber. I had nothing in common with those kids, but when we played spin the bottle my life changed. No, they didnt know what a cecropia moth was and I was the only one that never got to kiss a girl in a closet. They left out one. So I just went Right In Two. When I got back home I continued to read The Magic Moth by Virginia Lee. Unrelated to my moth obsession but that book helped me discover the Moth family in abstract.
