This one is all about the subtlety, Jonny Greenwood's string arrangements and the ambiance are gorgeously rich and detailed. There's so much emotion here: Glass Eyes, Daydreaming, and True Love Waits are like three of the most beautiful songs they've made.

i'll take the scatter-shot percussive nuance and innovative sound design of TKOL over the subtle cookie-cutter shittiness of "A 'We Ran Out of Money, Inspiration, and Ideas' Shaped Pool" any day

cherry picking like 3 songs from this is truly a great way to fill out your "Radiohead playlist consisting of virtually every song from every album other than AMSP and everything before Kid A" however

the whole "TKOL is bad mmkay" take is one of my least favourite takes OAT in modern music, closely followed by "I'm an adult and Billie Eilish is gud"

Daydreaming is so vapid and empty. Its literally the worst song theyve made.

id say its a middling tune for this particular album, there are far more vapid, empty offerings

and then there is burn the witch, the actual worst song theyve ever made

Burn the Witch is one of the only songs I like on this. Sounds completely different to the rest of the album. I thought it was boring at first but it grew. Ful Stop is cool too because its actually got a really good build-up.

Ful Stop is next level, the live performance was also standout when i saw them. The Numbers is good too

I really fucking hate the first minute or so of Identikit, sounds like they forgot to plug in Thom's mic and just left it cos it sounds ~esoteric~ or whatever. from "broken hearts make it rain" onwards is pretty good admittedly. Tinker Tailor still my favourite from this

I was just picking three of the best to illustrate how fantastic this is; I can make a case for why every song is excellent on its own merits, but thought that might be overkill. You rated it 7/10 and me 9/10, we're not in total disagreement, so I didn't think it was necessary.

I actually like the atmosphere and rhythmic qualities of TKOL a lot overall, it's a great album of course but the studio version just isn't as strong as most of their other albums imo. This has everything I wanted from a new Radiohead album.

Jonny Greenwood's Phantom Thread soundtrack should be heard by Radiohead fans too, it could be seen as a companion to this kind of, with more classical influence.

its a very generous 3.5, the few really good tracks make me want to not go lower.

the last thing i wanted from a new radiohead album was a bunch of old songs and absolutely no development whatsoever

AMSP certainly lacks any outward development of their sound, which is a shame, as that hunger to break new territory is what attracts many people to Radiohead.

This album shows them deepening their sound instead of broadening it. Rather than breaking new ground, they dug into the ground beneath their feet and found gold. Stylistic and thematic seeds they planted as far back as the OKC and Kid A eras are suddenly bounties of rich fruit, which they have arranged with beautiful strings and lovely production. They decided to look back for once, instead of always forwards, and did some modern spins on old sounds (and even old songs). I personally can't fault them for this approach, when the results sound so good.

Their experimental records like TKOL aren't going anywhere. I'm actually glad they slowed down on this one, cleared out their musical vault, and are now fresh and enema'd for whatever the hell comes next.

I can fault them when the results are as fuckin bland as this trash is.
