Since this shit released I went and re-listened to most of their records several times (cuz I wanted to rate it properly and refresh my memory about the albums). I can now pretty confidently say that since they weren't one of my formative bands (started paying attention to their stuff somewhere around '09), White Pony has got to be a contender for most overrated albums on this site, probably due to nostalgia. The rating never sat well with me, I gave it a chance, or more like 50, but they have like 4 or 5 better albums than WP at this point, this being one of em.

I'm not getting these WP takes. I didn't grow up with it, and while I wasn't intoxicated with it instantly, today it's firmly my favourite heavy album of all-time (Jane Doe is its only competition). The only negative take that makes sense to me is from one who dislikes the band in general. To say even this is better baffles me.

I grew up with WP, have loved Deftones since 1999 and think of White Pony as an all-time classic, but this is just more cohesive and consistent.

It is more cohesive, but in turn, I think it lacks some of the massive, ambitious heights WP had. I'd place that argument on KNY, which has both the cohesion and consistency of this with the highs that this is somewhat lacking (Spell and Headless do come rather close).

KNY was my favorite Deftones album for a while tbh, so I can't argue with that. There's a couple of duds in KNY tho, while this is consistently great from beginning to end (at least for me). And Spell is slowly becoming my favorite Deftones track overall, so yeah

the risks they took on White Pony could have gone easily wrong af - especially after ATF being some heavy shit. Most people I know who dislike WP do it cuz it's not "nu metal enough" after ATF. For me, White Pony is a master piece with the exception of Street Carp - that song is still as shitty as Pompeij

Street Carp is great tho. If anything the one and only weak link on WP is Feiticeira

Nah it's actually one of the high points. But yeah it lacks some heaviness and the actual heavy song on it is repetitive as fuck and sucks compared to anything on ATF (Elite).

street carp is fun
There are 2 songs that I still explain the meaning even though nobody will ask about it.
1 is offspring's come out and play, and the other is street carp.

Street Carp is good, but I kinda wish The Boy's Republic was in its place.

Street Carp owns yeah, but Korea is the most underrated track on White Pony by a mile
