'listening to thrash metal for the vox'
Why, are all thrash metal vocals this bad? I don't expect mind-blowing vocals, just competence will do.

well a lot are not particularly great traditionally but the genre has never been about the vocals.
i'd argue they are the least important part of the music, much less compared to other metal genres.

I did wonder whether you meant Thrash in particular or all metal, so thanks for clarifying. A lot of people don't value the importance of vocals across metal in general. Admittedly, it's not vital but I thought the ones on this album were particularly underwhelming, bordering on cringe-worthy.

Nah the vocals are one of the best aspects of this record
i swear to god they alienated me when i was a young turnip, but now i fucking love them, they sound like hes got his testicles in a vice

Best metaphor I've seen is he's like a rabid dog frothing at the mouth, definitely get that on the earlier records, before the starting trying to sing.
Must ask you sunlight, are you listening to the remaster or the original? Because the 2004 version has a few different takes on the vocals, not to mention the mixing is absolute shite

"A lot of people don't value the importance of vocals across metal in general"
for a lot of people I know off website vocals are pretty much criteria number 1.

Tempest: I think it's the original, according to my Amazon order anyway. There's no bonus tracks which seems to confirm this, right?

Scuro: they're probably the most off-putting thing about music in general if done badly. I do understand that people can like things despite this.

The intensity of Mustaine's vocals is one of the highlights. He is not very skilled but the passion he showed during the late 80s and ealy 90s made of records like this, peace sells and countdown a delight

Yep same, I would think that is the case for the general public on the whole of music

I think that vocals are the least important part of metal, because without its signature instrumentals, it wouldn't be metal, ya know? The technicality and precision of every instrument here is the most important part of this record, and is what makes it so timeless to this day.
Just imagine listening to metal with terribly executed instrumentals, but a great voice. Now imagine great instrumentals with a terrible voice. They're both bad, but I think it's more tolerable to listen to the latter.

"I think that vocals are the least important part of metal,"
Lyrics maybe, but vocals... Pretty important to me. Vocals can be a total turn-off...
Totally digging Dave's though.

What if instruments were completely off tempo, and fucked up all the time, but the band had a great singer? I mean, I feel like that would be a MUCH larger turn off. I don't see any a cappella metal singers, besides the ones doing covers.

Metallica's album

I had presumed you probably meant that one but not sure why they're relevant in a Megadeth comment section?

I saw a guy in a Megadeth t-shirt today, first time I can ever recall that happening which probably means I just haven't noticed before.

They're not but I'm still enjoying the discussion of how megadeth's technique is more interesting than metallica's. And making fun of Kirk's wah wah beside other things.

Based on this one album, I agree that Megadeth are better than Metallica. Are you happy now?
