Calling them out requires a very sophisticated (in comparison) taste, so with that in mind I can safely declare Coldplay abysmal.

oh great, people still do the "post your 5's" red herring over here instead of having an actual counterargument
it's fine, I stand by what I said. and no I don't hate Coldplay, but if you don't know what I meant by that comment I can't really help you

you think this is relatively safe for a Radiohead album is what I'm guessing you're saying. Be that as it may this is still some of the best collections of songs Radiohead have released, the album is perfectly coherent and it has a nice loose feel to it with absolutely solid production. whether it is uber-complex or experimental or not doesn't really matter when what I'm hearing is absolute gold. that's why I think this is their best release imo. Kid A is still a very close 2nd place.

it is a good collection of songs I just think after the strangeness & unpredictability of the previous 3 releases I felt that this one sort of lacked the... mystique? that was a big part of getting me into them in the first place. it sucks because they definitely still had that here, it's just that they decided to filter some of the coolest songs out of the album & onto the bonus disc
whatever, at the end of the day I like it, I just don't love it unless it's the complete picture

& given how hard some people push this as their best album on here leads me to pull[/pulk, hehe] more than I otherwise would, in terms of criticizing it etc, I'll admit

I totally get your point, this is definitely not as wild as their previous three efforts. personally I think that kind of plays as a strength here. dunno man, this album just smacks the right buttons for me. I really love that loose, jazzy feel to it and how organic it sounds. also the songs aren't exactly your average pop songs, they really perfectly tread that fine line between accessible and weird (fishes) on this one for me.

It was a joke man, but admittedly you don’t strike me as a wild experimental kind of guy, so I thought you might appreciate this album more than you do. It’s still a world away from being as bland as Martin & Co, perhaps the very thought of comparing the two irked me sufficiently enough to throw a dig your way.
I think this encapsulates their career in one consistent piece, it flows very well (something even the great Kid A nearly messed up). It rocks occasionally, bringing back memories of OKC, but with the benefit of what they’d learned on the journey since that point. I’m in agreement about disc 2, it is indeed excellent, but perhaps a double-album would’ve been a little excessive.

for context, I like Parachutes and at least parts of a couple of their records after that. my own comment wasn't meant as some purely condescending snark remark (tho i'm aware that's probably how it came off) so much as I feel this largely plays as a crossover/starting point for people who thought Kid A & Amnesiac were "too weird." & there's nothing wrong with that, it's just a little strange to me when that record is the one I see a lot of people declaring as their absolute crowning achievement

also for context, my most liberal 5-ing period was prob at least 10 years ago. i still love most of those albums, but these days i'm much more a "my highest rating: an A-" kinda guy

The new Bonnaroo '06 mix for today's installment of the Youtube concert series runs laps around the (already fine) bootleg soundboard audio. Resurrected that glow I felt when the band first clicked for me way back when. Good stuff.

It's great, it isn't cheap though. And perhaps not even totally needed. But there are some super cool tracks on there.
