“apparently he said that it's supposed to be written from the perspective of someone who doesn't know or understand what self-destructive individual/addict/etc is going through”
Yeah maynards perspective lol he’s written about similar topics on multiple occasions (just from memory: polar bear, passive, the noose). Seems awfully convenient to write something morally objectionable and then be like “oh no, that’s not my opinion, just some ambiguous persons opinion that really didn’t need to be spotlighted or propagated in any way and btw there’s no resolution to the topic”

"I mean you could interpret it many ways, but that’s the most face value one. Whether it’s valid or not it’s going to be the main takeaway"
It's not exactly a mystery what this album is about ya fucking goose.

“By and Down the river”, “Feathers”, “TalkTalk”, and “The Doomed” from Eat the Elephant are great songs. I also enjoy “So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish” and “The Contrarian”. Its biggest problem is that it is so poorly sequenced, and the first half of “Hourglass” is simply dreadful. “Get the Lead Out” doesn’t even feel like a proper closer. That album doesn’t have the cohesiveness this or Mer de Noms have.
