Night > everything after it [2]

Fully agreed

Anders Nyström has left the band, no wonder.

Anders released a statement and it makes me sad. sounds like Jonas has been taking control and holding the band back for a while.

Dead End Kings and The Fall of Hearts are both better than Night Is the New Day imo. But on the last 2 albums, the quality really started to drop. I'm sure it has nothing to do with Jonas taking sole writing duties...

Night is great but yeah so are DEK and TFOH. City Burials took some growing for me and I still like it less than those previous but it has some great moments, same with this one although it's more of a snoozer for me on the whole

Just read it and yeah it's sad. Katatonia was always about both of them. Wonder what will happen with bloodbath now.

Dead End Kings is nowhere near Night Is The New Day, especially since considering that these guys felt the need to release an acoustic album (Dethroned And Uncrowned) to highlight its dynamics.

I don't remember The Fall of Hearts at all, need to re-listen.

All three of those albums you mentioned are incredible. 4.5's easy.

Agreed about Night Is The New Day, beg to differ about Dead End Kings, not sure about The Fall of Hearts because I need to re-listen.

Yeah, without Blakkheim, it feels weird continuing the project. Is/has Andres (been) helming a new band or project?

I remember reading somewhere, that the last two albums were essentially Renske's solo work, well Nyström's departure lends some credence to that notion.

Yeah, I don't know, man, Night is like... SO dramatically better than DEK imo. One of the most perplexing publicly held opinions on Sputnik is that DEK > Night. Probably a top 5 "I just don't understand the general consensus" moments on this site for me lol.

I know that Night has the higher avg on this site, but I've had this discussion like 50 times over the years, and I swear you're the first person to ever agree with me, Voivod

NITND and DEK are severely underrated. I hate TFOH so much that I chose Votum's Ktonik over in 2016 because it reminded me of Katatonia but better during the year.

Agreed, strange how divisive that album is.
