drifter is right on this one. Poetic Justice is just as much of an attempt at a commercial hit than anything on DAMN. arguably worse because it doesn’t even fit with the narrative flow of the album

“But you are tripping balls if you don’t think DAMN is the way worse culprit of being commercial schlock“
no argument there :]
damn is when he started getting excruciatingly annoying with the voices
|
| |
maybe but poetic justice is one of my favorite Kendrick songs lol, I even kinda like Drake’s verse…
tbh it’s the song that got me into hip hop

“damn is when he started getting excruciatingly annoying with the voices”

Poetic Justice slaps but DAMN has better songs

I agree songs like Humble and Loyalty try too hard to be commercial and fall flat. I would say the same about DNA but the last verse goes hard as fuck and makes up for it
|
| |
for all my harsh takes on DAMN, I will say I remember and have strong opinions about every song on the album. that is very much not the case for MM, it suffers badly from bloat and forgettable tracks
|
| |
songs I remember from MM (which I definitely spun at least 10 times on release):
wub wub big steppers sciatica nerve pinch
the song he’s yelling at his wife
“you ugly as FUCK”
Kodak black + piano
“push these niggas off me like huuueeeh”
uuuuuuuhhhh lol am I missing anything

killin it lately, was not killin it in june

jammed this for the first time in a while
i think the first three tracks is some of the best stuff he's ever done... and while i love die hard on its own i really feel like the album's momentum comes to a halt here and never picks back up
father time and rich spirit are good, count me out has grown on me a bit, silent hill is fun... but i don't think i'd consider any of those tracks to be highlights if they were on damn
everything else is either completely forgettable (purple hearts, mr. morale) or just downright irritating for me to listen to (crown, the skit, the interludes etc.).
think auntie diaries and mother i sober could've been much better if they didn't sound like lullaby's and had more engaging instrumentation

I heard a breakdown somewhere of Mother | Sober and its musical motifs and it's hit different for me since. Maybe on an episode of Dissect?
