Cavalcade had a few decent moments but mostly didn’t work for me as it felt like wank without fun but also not terribly effective in its serious moments.
Surely those track rating for this warrant higher than a 2.5 rating though Doof? Unless you feel something’s really off with the package considered as a whole I guess.

compared to this?
less successful wank, slightly more successful fun
this album after five listens does suddenly go from sounding quite innovative to quite MOR it's weird - the album does finish strong though I'll give it that. If you reversed the track order I probably wouldn't listen past track 5 or 6 so for the best it works like that.
guess I need to revisit last year's squid album now - but I'm sticking with Schlag as my favourite from this scene/genre/scene/etc

Squid I think are happy to operate in the happy medium of not taking themselves too seriously and being effectively fun and not trying to achieve too much more than that.
If we’re talking the whole Windmill scene then of the ones I know last year’s Shame is probably my favorite though this may usurp it. This one is certainly by far the most Boney-core stylistically speaking.

Yes, definitely some Arcade Fire/Okkervil River/Antlers type vibes here
Shame I see as more straightahead post punk - heavy on the punk tbh

(finally decided to listen)
what they're mostly good at is adding worthwhile texture n harmony n heart to simple songs, this is a really pretty album where all teh musicians are doing characteristic stuff and you can tell they actually like writing music in addition to playing it

@Cimnele
Not far off what artists like Lankum and John Francis Flynn are doing. Sam Amidon also has an affinity for prog-folk. Actually, Fleet Foxes' stuff would fit the bracket, too.

I’d say this has more jazz flavours than something like Fleet Foxes but then FF do utilise some jazz instrumentation too these days

Album Rating: 3.5
Yeah. It's more on choice songs like 'The Shrine' or 'I am All That I Need'.
Sam Amidon incorporates a lot of jazz into his records these days. Often collaborates with jazz artists like Bill Frisell, Sam Gendel, Milford Graves, and Kenny Wheeler to name a few.

I highly rate Sam Amidon, did a discog dive of his stuff last year

Yeah, he's great. Fun to see live, too. He has a fun sense of humor.

Woods' vocals are one of my favourite aspects of this album, sucks that he's left so soon. These guys have insane potential.

I like it, and I wasn't really expecting to like it since I wasn't too fond of their first album. I think that makes it a nice surprise.

this is not getting better with subsequent listens, might be a 3. Concorde’s climax is so limp

Limp biscuit.
I like it. I mean, it's similar to other works I've heard, and I can trace the references but it's put together nicely.

Isaac is demonstrably the least impressive piece of this, hope he's alright and can find the peace he needs, and agree it'd be odd to perform these specific songs without him, but in general imagine the band'll be just fine

I expect bad takes from the rest of this website but not from you porc. not from you

Yeah, maybe they're all great musicians, but at least this album is largely dependent on his unique performance.
Ie I don't think this band goes far without their lead singer and driving force.
