Don't see how they're a downgrade at all, and especially not why lyrical content should be much of a factor when listening to Trivium of all bands. [2]

Lyrical content is almost always a factor for me unless it's instrumental music. I honestly wouldn't really return to Trivium albums if they were fully instrumental (sans like Ascendancy or something), especially lately, they've got a formula they stick to and aren't doing anything new or super interesting for me. So to differentiate them from album to album I often have to look to the vocal performances and lyrical content. And... Dungeons & Dragons themes don't really appeal to me.

it's not even DnD themed wtf are you smoking
this ain't power metal

Good point, implying it's DnD metal implies a perceptible meaning to these lyrics to begin with. Whereas TSATS and WTDMS often forayed into more personal lyrical motifs or speaking about societal issues, this just kinda uses the Shogun fantasy themes while not being as inspired or perceptible in meaning as the original album it's trying to replicate.

they're cool but they dont do anything new for me, so the lack of relatable content sticks out more

Tbh, all I really need from Trivium lyrics is for them to not blatantly suck and maybe to make me think "damn, that's metal af" from time to time.

There really isn't a lot of cringe here as far as lyrics go. It works well with the music.

The fantasy concepts do nothing for me tbh

There's no way a Trivium album actually has a 4 avg on here lol, that's wild man.

It's actually pretty solid plebskies. Heafy's guitar work is really impressive. Unfortunately he hasn't improved his harsh vocals for 20 years tho

"There's no way a Trivium album actually has a 4 avg on here lol, that's wild man." especially one of their least inspired albums

I like me some Trivium tbh man, don't remember checking this one or WtDMS.
Sin and Sentence was sweet, though.
Still have crazy nostalgia for the Crusade as well, was my first proper metal record back in the day.

Came back to see if this is still correctly rated as a 4. Glad I'm not disappointed.
