I chuckled hard XD.

"Other Language grew on me so hard. This album in general does, feel like a lot of people who were (understandably) bored by their first listen are gonna come around to it after a few spins."

Yeah I think the same, it grew on me and I think the same about the album, it has a general potential of grabing some people that didn't enjoy it that much on first listen.

For real, Mombasa is the best song they’ve done. I really think that. Sorry Dream House.

Prob a minority opinion but you gotta realize, Mombasa is straight “Mongicore.” (;

Mombasa might be the sole reason why the next Deafheaven album sounds like an Agalloch album in terms of songbuilding.

'Those vocals are awful.'

Those who are saying the vocals on this are awful, I'm genuinely curious as to what you were expecting from this. What separates Neil and Kevin from George in terms of vocal ability on a shoegaze record?

Layers of effects, hiding behind the mix, lyrics. That whispering shit haha. If they weren't so front-and-centre I'm sure it'd be less of a problem, but they're just so prominent and lifeless. Not a noteworthy melody in sight, either.

Honestly probably also something of an emotional response in me because I fucking loved this band once upon a time.

You just described Slowdive and MBV, so again, why does George not get a pass as well?

As in that's a factor that separates them. The vocals here are not hiding behind the mix, they're pushed forward and kinda dry and easy to parse. If there's whispering in any Slowdive or MBV songs, my apologies, I don't recall that. Just disliked the whispering section on one song here.

Ok...so what makes the vocals here awful in comparison to MBV and Slowdive, that's my primary question here.
