Maynard doesn't write music or play instruments, he just writes lyrics and sings

well I mean NIN versus Tool

and in terms of lyrics, Maynard has some interesting concepts, but Trent's are some of the best of all time, the angsty vibe isn't all that fair, because he handles the emotion far better then any nu-metal lyricist, and presents it as just a legitimate emotion as any.

I dont really get the Rosetta Stoned love... Its never been a song that excites me. Although Jambi and Vicarious are stupidly awesome tracks.

This album has more stand outs than 10k imo.

Agreed. In my opinion it is a classic! It's slightly better than aenima and much better than 10k.

Danny Carrey should be doing more stuff though, just to prove his aweosmeness
he already does. He plays drums for a band called Pigmy Love Circus.

EDIT: nevermind i don't think he does stuff with them anymore.

Easily Tool's most mature album, it is also their most well known thanks to the nonstop playing time Schism received on every music station. However, Schism is just one highlight on this 79 minute beast. The drumming is absolutely astonishing. The bass adds atmosphere, along w/ being played w/ much precision, it is more than just a rhythm instrument. The guitar sounds great and the vocals are always perfect. However, some parts are a little bit overdone. Lateralus finds itself w/ a few not needed areas, such as the middle of the song Ticks and Leeches. Disposition is nice but repetitive. Faaip De Oiad is a waste of time and the two segues in the beginning Eon Blue Apocalypse and Mantra were not needed and could have been used for another song. But these aren't big deals, The Grudge, Schism and Reflection are awesome.

I really need to hear this. I'm something of a prog nerd, but know next to nothing by Tool. Apparently, I'm missing out...
