What's different about making an album that doesnt drag in 2019 as opposed to years

The music on this is amazing. But damn those vocals are grating.

Tnx Dewi! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Nightwalkers and Inland Rain are quickly getting on the same par as Lights on the Hill and The Fall for me, with t/t not coming far behind. The overall quality of every song here is off the charts jeez.

'I do wonder what this would have been with Julie but Johannes is the man.'

I know you love the Julie collab more than I do (at least relative to their other work), but I genuinely couldn't see this working with her vocals, even at selective points. You'd have to start completely dismantling this from top to bottom for it to remain focused and cohesive, I wouldn't want to mess with the atmosphere they've achieved here.

its about twenty years past the peak of the modern metal scene

Is it really though? In terms of popularity maybe, but in terms of actual quality of the music I kinda beg to differ. Last decade gave us some of the best music in metal (in my humble opinion of course).

Now listened to the first three albums and the one before this - so not 'Somewhere Along...' - and at this point I'm still thinking this is their best

SATH and Vertikal is probably their best imo.

Not just today - listened to the first two yesterday, just listened to 'Eternal Kingdom' and half way through the new one right now (this will be my third full listen)

You’ll develop ear fatigue for sure by the end of this album alone so definitely wouldn’t recommend first listens of all their big albums in one go

Also fuck no to having Julie on this. That was fine as an experiment on Mariner but I’m not a big fan of hers

Yeah definitely wouldn't work out here. Would have to be reshaped completely for a Julie contrib to work

I did this one 3 times...I love it...I'm tempted to five it...I just feel I owe some re-listens to these guys, and I failed Vertikal...I'm just trying to move from jamming Johnny Booth, Blut Aus Nord and this one...I'll try to do that...one/two per day seems fitting.
