Slapping an early 4.5 on this baby. Musically, it’s really strong and really consistent. Has their familiar sound but veers structurally towards more of a post metal influence, and the rhythmic interplay is just incredible. Not a big fan of the vocal performance but it doesn’t bring the album down so much as it doesn’t elevate it to the ridiculous levels this band reached with Aenima/Lateralus. Would love to hear this exact same album with young Maynard, or on the other end of the spectrum a strong post metal vocalist.
