Vektor thrash hard, yet I can see someone who's not massively into thrash enjoying them greatly. I only checked Voivod due to Vektor ('wrong way around' if any elitist thrash fans are watching, I know).

Well I like prog and some black metal, so I'll give Vektor a go. Will listen to the others too, see if anything sticks. Thanks for the recommendations guys!

Nope Hawks sorry, I can appreciate the way they paved for extreme bands around the world, but it's something I will actively skip when I can. What do you like about them, other than the fact that they're classics?

I'm optimistic you'll like Terminal Redux, very 'proggy' & it's incredibly ambitious & a concept album, haha

Sorry, I don't. I have no nostalgia, no emotional attachment with any of it. So when I listen to it I judge it solely by what I hear, without any baggage attached to it. And I don't get it (which is completely fine by me). But it makes me curious what about it people love so much. Is it mostly nostalgia or something completely different that I'm missing here?

It’s very hard to explain why I love music over the internet idk if you don’t feel it then you don’t I guess. Slayer rules though.

Fair enough I guess I could rationalize why I love certain music to no end but if you don't feel it you don't feel it. On the flipside it's easy to love something BECAUSE of X and Y, but it might be purer to love something DESPITE of X and Y.

it always helps to get some kind of picture painted for you or to get context to enjoy music more, at least that was what helped me get into new stuff in the past. massively so in fact, reading reviews is a great catalyst to enjoying the music more for. me.

I read tons of reviews, sometimes retrospectively just to get an alternative viewpoint (even if the end result/opinion is similar).

Agree, reading reviews, interviews, jamming with lyrics, watching live videos, etc, definitely helps to get into new material.
I jammed way too much music this year on a very shallow level so I'm planning to be more selective n thorough next year.
