Anybody reminded of any other somewhat surprising bands or albums while listening to this? A few parts have made me remember some excellent music that I haven't listened to in a while. I'm not saying the band are intentionally referencing anyone else, or are even influenced at all by the other bands I hear...it's just a testament to how deftly mwY have gradually expanded their sonic palette, while still sounding absolutely and unmistakably like themselves.
Anyway, in addition to the Godspeed/Mt.Zion/Red Sparowes vibe I previously mentioned hearing in [dormouse sighs], I hear some Yo La Tengo/Low in the opening verses of New Wine, New Skins, and the little guitar flourishes (harmonics, maybe?) in Wendy & Betsy for some reason remind me of Menomena's I Am The Fun Blame Monster.
Maybe I'm nuts... but I go with my gut instinct!

La Dispute is 95% Jordan either giving a spoken passage or doing the scream thing (whatever you want to call it). there's very little of him actually singing
meWithoutYou has Aaron doing a lot more and the songs are more diverse because of it.
I still think it's easy to compare the two though when it's a song that features him doing the signature scream thing. I also think it's the fact that both of them get you so enthralled in what they have to say. Despite this, I wouldn't say the bands sound similar. I think both vocalists are just iconic for doing that type of thing which is comparable at the very least.

yeah this started as a 4 for me, I was pretty disappointed with the midsection as I was expecting stuff like 9:27 and Wendy & Betsy throughout; but then I realized how good those slower songs are and it became an instant classic from there.
