funny too since i consider myself to prolly be one of the biggest verge dickriders on the site, but obvi dont rate every single album that comes out a 4 or 4.5 like the rest of the newwave sputters

asleep - yeah i said that a few pages ago. and the 1-2 punch of thousands of miles and dusk in us is perfect and reminds me a lot of cruel bloom and wretched world. as far as the two lightest tracks being at the end.

honestly, I think it's one of the least interesting and technical records they have ever put out, but man it is just so satisfying to listen to that I don't even care.

as far as technicality it does seem to focus much more heavily on atmosphere, so i get that, but i definitely don't consider it their least interesting. i've actually been enjoying it far more with subsequent plays, and think some of their best songs are here.

yea i dont listen to converge for technicality which is why axe to fall is one of their lesser albums. i usually listen for atmosphere and/or emotional impact which this definitely has the former

fair point Gyro, I do appreciate the dedication to the atmosphere on this, and the generally slower pace is enjoyable. I suppose by "least interesting" I just mean that none of this really threw me in a loop. there is nothing on here so abrasive or jagged that it just melts me (like some of the stuff on JD or ATF), and the more atmospheric stuff didn't really take me by surprise given they've always dabbled in it. as I said though, that hasn't really hampered my enjoyment thankfully

i think axe is one of their more atmospheric albums tbh, and my second favourite.

ATF is best Converge largely because of CB/WW, but this is not comparable to that. Miles is filler whereas CB was fantastic.

I really hate to fully commit to the Sput bandwagon, but damn these guys are becoming one of my favourite groups
