Thats partly why I haven't rated yet con, still can't decide my feelings on it, doesn't draw me back in like their past stuff did.

yeah agreed, probably because the tone is p lethargic so you def need some patience when giving this a full listen through

with that being said I might have to bump my rating down

I love it but it's a bit inaccessible to say the least

I was blown away my first few listens, then I just couldn't find the will to listen to anything but 451, which is what my score reflects now. Its anything but a pick up and play record.

Deservedly so. Gang of Youths is the only other thing I've heard this year that I would even consider to be in the running.

Those two and Manchester Orchestra for me. Lorde and Fleet Foxes round out the top 5.

Haven't checked MO or Fleet Foxes in their entireties yet... weekend homework.

Yeah Lorde was really, really solid. Great theme from start to finish.

My top 5 are Sleep Well Beast by The National, To the Bone by Steven Wilson, this, new Ulver, and new Fleet Foxes. Carrie & Lowell live too if that counts. Slowdive and Planetarium are follow-ups.

Haven't given Sleep Well Beast a proper listen yet but given my history of 4.5ing and 5ing National records, it could easily join my aforementioned. I don't "officially" count live recordings otherwise C&L Live would be near the very top.

Not as many heavy hitters this year as I expected coming into 2017 but the year ain't over yet.

The other day I was tripping L and I listened to same logic, my god that song culminates so fucking well. Exactly what I would want new age brand new to sound like, I'm adoring this record

The background guitars on could never be heaven are straight eargasmic

Love both tracks (and they're all good, obv). I think this edges GoY for my AOTY but it's close.

...and the new National is good but hasn't really clicked with me yet. If I were to rate it now it'd just be like a 3.5ish so I need that crystallizing moment on a night drive where feelings are felt or something.
