Maybe you should try Astronoid or Sylvaine, Boney, or even Katatonia.

I'm not trying to fully embrace metal quite yet guys, but perhaps I'll get into the habit of checking a metal album every now and then. :-]

@SCREAM I'm seeing the tag "folk metal" associated with Agalloch which is certainly intriguing.

"fair you at least listen to deftones though right?"

You're funny.

As far as I know, this is the first album I've listened to in its entirety that falls predominantly under the metal tag (and honestly that's kind of arguable here what with the shoegaze and post rock influence; do people mostly consider these guys a metal band?).

i've always considered them as a predominantly metal band except for shelter. but that's not the point in anything.

like who cares if anyone thinks it's predominantly metal or not? you can hear there are metal elements that you actually like and it's great that you find yourself branching out, not that "so did i just listen to a metal album or what?"

I see, I see Art. Too bad I had to start with something you think is only decent.

Kill I do like some Metallica songs but I've never heard a full album, I understand they're essential listening whether or not one is a metal fan.

If we are going all technical here, was't Alcest referred to as Blackgaze?

I just call it amazing music, but yea they're about as melodic and closest to post-rock and shoegaze as blackgaze gets, as opposed to a band like Deafheaven.
