2.7 for Moss, 3 for Blasphemy, but 4.3 for this!? Oy vey, this is personally my least favorite Toby release

Amalia's Theme and Magnetism both slap. Closer is my favorite though.

magnetism is kinda a mess and the closer is good but doesn't have that much to distinguish itself in the big spooky world of downbeat gothic drumrolls??
this alb is more painful than Blasphemy in many ways bc i always go in remembering that the sound palette is cool and that i want to like it, and then Amalia ends and nope, nope, nope this is a shapeless mess with a few good bits

Amalia is the one thing I ever go back to from this

Sometimes the best things in this world are shapeless, and I will agree this is shapeless. My all time favorite KD album, as I’ve said many times.

I don't know what the implication of something being shapeless means. That the compositions how no direction or are somehow riff salad maybe? or the album doesn't know what it's trying to be? Both of which I'd disagree with because I think its vibe (Sci-fi Prog Rock) is clearly signaled and the compositional methods used here still sound like the same Kayo Dot we're used to. I also complete disagree with Magnetism being a mess when I think it's one of the most intricately written songs on this album. The only thing I find messy about this album is the mix and I chalk that up to possible inexperience with fusing electronic music to progressive rock. But I haven't found it detrimental, just that the album could have sounded even better. There are still plenty of things that tickle my ears though, the effects-laden drum panning on Rings of Earth sound awesome, the spacey drone with the bass blips in Amelia are immersive, and Magnestism's ending gradually sounds like it becomes more saturated with distortion while simultaneous fading out into just the synth melody. Man, I love this album. Hope the whole sci-fi era of Kayo Dot gets revisited because it was dope. I don't get why all anyone wants from this band are just Choirs 2.0 or Hubardo 2.0.

"implication of something being shapeless... one of the most intricately written songs on this album"
oh yeah, it's intricate as all hell! but by the same expediency that i'd consider an irregular polygon with a vast number of sides and vertexes to be shapeless, i bounce right off this. power to you if you can lose yourself in all those contours - wish i could. love the sound and that TD took the band in this direction on principle, but it doesn't hold the same magnetism gravity as his best work for me
and if we're gonna get a part 2 of anything, i want it to be Blue Lamb. Choirs/Hubardo are perfect as they are and need no reprises (would settle for more Dowsing though)

Nothing messy about this album. Two words I’d use to describe the sound here: clean, smooth.

And yeah really wanted them to further this sound. One of the biggest let downs for sure. Glad they’re continuing music, but after this, could hardly connect w the bands material.

I just love the atmosphere and imagery of this record. The spacious synths make me feel like I'm floating on a cloud, even during the album's more turbulent moments

this is common knowledge but i'm bored this morning and want to trigger my pal Johnny so i'll take this opportunity to remind everyone that COYOTE is the best Kayo Dot album.

dude you've been around long enough to know that's neither a hot nor cold not good nor especially bad take, but flexing that kind of endearingly weird opinion as bait suggests you have a long way to go
