I thought it was decent, it's totally fine for what it is

that's pretty cool. Gotta hear it again but it didn't do anything for me tbh. Just made me anxious cause the production was pretty bad

Second half of the song from 3:15 onward and the solo actually sounded cool

The song def brings nothing new or amazing to the table but at least it's enjoyable again in parts. That's enough to keep me stoked for the release.

New song is enjoyable enough. Not one I'd seek out to hear again, but it's at least more serviceable than anything here and most of the stuff off of their self-titled. 3/5 for me.

New song is already heavier than anything on the Astonishing. I can hear John Myung again!

Eh if the single is of any indication I'd rather re-check this one than the new one. Here I at least heard some ideas

Too bad Myung just plays what JP plays and only steps out during the guitar solos nowadays.
Everyone in the band are incredible musicians yet they keep putting out such bland material. Mangini keeps letting me down, he's a seriously good drummer but he's too busy doing the whole "play for the song" thing, part of Portonoy's charm was his showmanship.

After the 3rd listen I have to agree with you Sabrutin... The new track only consists of weakly recycled parts from old songs patched together void of any flow and emotion. Don’t feel anything when listening to it... It simply doesn’t work for me this way.

And everything you said is also painfully true chug. The spark is gone, probably for good...

There are some genuine cool moments here, like ~3:25 into Gift of Music imo. I also don't mind at all the fact that it's not a particularly heavy album, it allows for more colours. I think I should give it another go someday

can we all just agree on one thing, no matter how good or bad the new album will be some of you guys are going to dislike it anyway
there are people out there who will bash any new DT album just for the sake of bashing it
not that the band has released material worthy of being noteworthy tbh
but still...

"can we all just agree on one thing, no matter how good or bad the new album will be some of you guys are going to dislike it anyway"
I mean...not me. If they release something good after all of these years, I'll be fucking ecstatic as I've been waiting for them to release something worthy of my time since the early-mid 2000s.
|
| |
bottom line, the truth is this:
the last truly great album released by those guys was octavarium and some fans still reject it
I really don't think dream theater is going to sound that good again in the furure, so take it or leave it people

"I mean...not me. If they release something good after all of these years"
by what standards ? something good like octavarium good ?
