this or debut can't decide ; (

'EARL' kind of sounds like garbage compared to this and DORIS

I don't agree but I could see where one would think that. The flow and beat on a song like Luper are close to as good as what he's done since. God, I love Grief though.

Doris and this have so much filler if this album was full of trax like greif this would be god tier. Debut is still his best imo

Grief is the best here and one of Earl's best songs in general.

Its his best imo that beat is untouchable. The lyrics are so relatable its scary

Earl's lyrics are consistently great, it's just his delivery over the whole course of an LP can get monotonous.
|
| |
i dunno dude i think its pretty obviously supposed to be monotonous given the theme of the album

Yea, this album has atmosphere for days. The stripped down almost lo-fi production, the monotonous flow, bleak lyrics. Grown Ups has a killer beat.

Maybe I need to revisit, remember liking this abit more than Doris.

it's a valid criticism regardless of intention
the monotony is why i dig it tho. and ye agreed hard on grief.

I ain't been outside in a minute I been living what I wrote.

"it's a valid criticism regardless of intention"
and mine was a valid defence of his intention, regardless of whether someone likes it, these are things that don't need to be pointed out to be known

seemed contrary but fair

its generally assumed on sites like this that omitting 'IMO' from every post you make doesn't mean you are conceited enough to think what you are saying is an objective fact
im ~personally~ of the thought that the monotony is both intentional and effective but even if it is intentional sure it can bore others

If you want to hear some vicious hip hop monotony done exquisitely, check Days with Dr. Yen Lo by Dr. Yen Lo
Earl himself praised it as the best album of the year bar none

nah that wasn't my assumption of you. what i meant is that typically people who try to defend things as intentional do so to deflect criticism, as if being purposeful somehow means said thing can't be criticized on that quality.
ofc i'm speaking in generalities but that's just from my experience. i completely agree with you tbh - it's valid both ways.

His tone doesn't take away from this album one bit theres just a lot of skippable tracks and few standouts. Its a solid 3.4. Hes capable of a lot more and i hope we get a complete earl album one day
