Its also slightly over-produced, which most modern metal albums unfortunately are. It makes the whole thing sound too glossy and impersonal imo.

yea, what Trebor said. there are some cool riffs here and there tho, like the one clim mentioned. Blackholes is actually my favorite, that part at about 8 minutes is great too

I'll certainly make a note to listen to this.

Pyrrhic is one of the better metal songs I've heard in quite some time.

Blackholes is my fave tbh
|
| |
It's prog but the songs don't really go anywhere interesting, I don't really feel the progressions
I'd have to agree. Black Holes is sweet though, and reminds me of the more focused tracks from Portal like Xenoflux and Plague. The rest of the tracks are reminiscent of forgettable tracks like Of The Leper Butterflies

I actually find Of The Leper Butterflies very memorable, it's one of my favourite parts of Portal of I.

Portal seemed to blend together into mush after Tapestry

Meaning that you failed to absorb its content in a coherent manner, which does not necessarily mean that the content was arranged in such a manner.

No, I wasn't saying that at all. What I was trying to say was that nothing really stood out after the first song
|
| |
album sucks, production is really awful

how so

Everything on here sounds so devoid of atmosphere or impact, it is all so extremely polished and sterile. The drumming sounds like shit, it sounds really odd in the mix like this wimpy little tittering. The songs feel so poorly slapped together they transition from one part to the next with such little meaning or poise, it is especially hard to care when everything feels so excessively bells and whistles for the sake of it rather than for any purpose whatsoever.
|
| |
production is standard for modern metal (i.e. shit)
