I'm listening to it right now for the first time in a few years. And while the plagiarism is still pretty bad (I'm surprised that the Heretic / Symphony of Destruction similarities haven't been mentioned more), I have to admit that I'm enjoying it a fair bit, all things considered. I think my 3 will have to stay where it is

Agreed on the rating tbh
Second half of this is almost begging for me to pull a 3.5 on it but god Doing Time sucks

Yeah, it's a pretty solid slab of traditional metal. Some of Shadows' best vocal work too

Could have very easily repeated this or Nightmare over & over and made bank, amazing having 2 billboard number 1 albums. That's why like them or hate them you have to respect the move they made with both the Stage & LIBAD, they were not satisfied being a legacy act even if it made more money or put them in "the history books" of mainstream publications by ensuring more top 5 album releases. It's just exciting to see what they do in the future, because it's impossible to predict.
While this album was always very plagiarized, they did craft some good tracks here. Shepherd of Fire & Coming Home both were pretty great & I always enjoyed This Means War even if it was Sad But True in many ways (the mashups were unironically quite cool)

T/T and Shepard of Fire are really the only things I come back to from this. Planets is probably the most unintentionally hilarious song they've ever made.

"'m surprised that the Heretic / Symphony of Destruction similarities haven't been mentioned more"
Yeah, that one isn't as striking as other cases but it's there. Speaking of which... Doing Time is waaay too similar to Guns n Roses' It's So Easy. Like come on the verses are mindboggling.
I don't hate this at all by itself and I even some nostalgia for it. Coming Home is a great song for example, great chorus, great solos (even if the intro is pure Maiden...). But it's hard to ignore

i was a mega stan of this band in like 5th/6th grade and bought hail to the king on release date... returned it two weeks later. if you cant even appeal to an 11 year old you've fucked up

Had the same experience essentially. Young kid who had loved everything I heard from them, heard Shepard and T/T was excited, heard the rest and immediately determined it was crap.

Crimson Day is the worst ballad they’ve ever made, and that includes Warmness on the Soul

your hazel green tint eyes watching
i remember reading a comment on that song like 10 years ago where this guy said that was the song he played at his wedding and ive always just imagined the crowds reaction to m shadows' vocals lmao

yeah you know what that was hyperbole. I haven’t listened to either in at least 5 years but crimson day is definitely better than warmness on the soul. even the name of that song is the most cornball shit ever
