also I agree about Toph, I think she's purposely acting like she's 10 and I think she'll be back to sort of explain her odd behavior.
Also did you guys think Toph's line about "Well each of the villains had good ideas but took them to the extreme" was terrible? Like it was ridiculously unnatural, and patronizing in the sense that "Wow Toph, thanks, I couldn't figure out that all of the villains had good ideas taken too far. I appreciate you literally stating it in explicit terms." I feel like that line could have been executed so much better

yeeep. fartbending is as dumb as it sounds. it was worse in Season 1 as it came during a tense battle.
and uh, season 3 was on par with A:TLA, season 4 might be (imo it hasn't been so far but that might just be me) and seasons 2 & 1 don't really compare, except maybe first season of A:TLA before 'The Storm' (where it sort of gets its stride imo)

this felt like the most kiddie episode yet, and not just because we spent most of it with the three kid characters
|
| |
Yeah, but the only one "fartbending" is Meelo: an immature 9 year old Airbender.
If anything it's just a way to show his immaturity, nothing to scoff at.

@dimsim agreed, although the Wu antics are also childish and vapid at least they're only a small part of each episode. This episode was so... idk. The episode seems worse in retrospect... like why are the airbender kids so irreverent of Toph? Jinora's obsessed with her grandpa and grandma's travels, shouldn't she be more excited at meeting one of her grandparents' best friends? Why doesn't the show call out Meelo for being a little shit?

@Ars, umm I don't really agree with your logic. Breaking Bad has an infant child in it. Should the writers have added in her randomly taking a shit for no good reason? After all, it's in-character for a baby to do that. Or would that be tonally off?
In writing, every decision you make is intentional. There are plenty of ways of highlighting a character's immaturity. You don't need 'fartbending' to even exist as a concept (though it was tolerable in this episode... it was just awful in Season 1 though). My issue is that it's just such a childish thing to do that it doesn't match the tone of the series as a whole, so it just seems wrong. And it's not even funny, so like what's the point?

Well, if my stint of exclusively reviewing soundtracks amounted to anything, at least it gave you all a place to talk about this show lol.

Haha yea thanks, feel free to join in.

Hey fragile! Haven't heard from you in a long time. How's things?
|
| |
i just caught up with the show. pretty amazing so far. those past few episodes had a heavy return of
the jedi vibe.
|
| |
Yea how amazing was season 3 right? Season 4 is a bit clunky right now but it'll shape up.

It'd be interesting if the series finale will just be Korra saving the earth kingdom from the dictator, I hope they mix it up a bit but that's all I'm getting so far unless a completely new storyline is introduced, which I doubt given how these past few seasons have gone. I hope they make it large-scale and epic at least, but part of me wished they saved the season 2 storyline for this season as it was by far the biggest and with the most stakes.
|
| |
season 3 was very awesome. i liked the way the season was built up although i didnt really care about the earth kingdom parts. i think season 4 is going alright. theyve established the antagonist and based on her goals and who is tied to them i think it will pay off for good viewing in the future. i liked the emotinal distress korra is going through too. idk how i feel about tophs appearance in the show though.
|
| |
yeah i also felt it was a bit weak to have korra literally fight the being of darkness and come out better than having just a really good airbender get the best of her. he was a good character but i hope they handle the new one better

yep thanks btf lol
and uhhhh zaheer would have gotten #rekt if a) he couldn't fly (don't understate how much harder it is to fight someone who can travel unrestricted in 3 dimensions versus 2, especially if you're not used to it) and b) korra weren't poisoned.
i love how they handled Season 3 after the mess of Season 2. Way more personal, and the storytelling was just so much tighter.

And the action was more fucking badass ;)

Agreed. Season 2 had a ton of "epic" moments (like Avatar State Korra vs Unalaq) but it didn't pack as much of a punch as Season 3, where the stakes felt more personal. The end of that battle scene in 'The Ultimatum' is still gut wrenching
|
| |
Every fight in season 3 felt so heavy and intense.
|
| |
Anyone else feel like Zaheer is a bit of a knock off of Bane from Dark Knight Rises. :P I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Not at all, but Bane was so uninteresting to me as a villain that I can't remember what sort of ideology he stood for at this point in time
