Yeah, New Day is awesome. It's the perfect example of how to really build a song. The climax near the end is amazing.
Really, Mongi? You don't even like Eidolon, Aeons, Float or We Are? They are not THAT dissimilar from the Sound Awake style.
So, the Karnivool/Dead Letter Circus (with Sleepmakeswaves) tour has been announced but they're not coming to Adelaide. This is the first time they haven't come here. WTF!

Eidolon is pretty good and Float is pretty soothing. We Are is okay but again a big part of why I don't like this is because the drums are intrusive.

were the guitarists asleep for most of this album's recording or something? i mean they have two guitarists and most of the time they just sit back and do nothing while steve judd just wanks all over his drum kit instead

Steve Judd is amazing don't get me wrong, but he just sounds like he's banging on the snare for most of this album.

Yeh the whole record just sounds nasty
Ive always thought melody was Karnivools strongest asset so Judd dryhumping a snare drum being the focal point of the songs here just doesnt really appeal to me

Lol. I honestly don't mind raw stuff, but it's weird how a lot of this record doesn't seem to work

i completely disagree with everything you're saying i don't get it!!!

And that's okay haha to each his own! Oddly enough I do think that Sky Machine is one of their best written songs so far.

The banging on the snare thing is really only applicable for A.M War, The Refusal and The Last Few. And i think it really works in The Last Few. It just fits that song really well. It's not that distracting on A.M War either. Again, it fits the song. Only on The Refusal does it really get annoying.
His playing in general is fantastic, he's a great drummer.
With the exception of Themata, the guitarists have never been the focal point. They've always been about building atmosphere. On this album, they mostly build chaotic dissonance.

Yea anyone who admits that Judd isn't a great drummer is only fooling themselves. But this album doesn't really do him justice unfortunately

This grew off of me. I wouldn't call it average, but not it's certainly not the 4 I thought it was a few months ago.

If it's any consolation the average actually went up to 3.7

A lot of it is the production. The drums just sound either too loud or lost in the mix. I'm not a fan of some of his tone choices either.
It's just weird how some songs like We Are, Sky Machine and Eidolon don't have this problem. It's like some of the songs were produced in different studios or somewhere else.
