Tidal Wave has You Cant Look Back, Holy Water and I Felt It Too which are among my favorite "modern", so cant disagree with you, but they didnt quite reach the same height as their debut where each song were pitch perfect. Same goes for The Used even tho In Love and Death and Artwork will forever be near and dear to my heart haha

Louder Now is probably their best overall album. Fred Really brought alot to that band but I think New Again is heavily slept on. Now usually TBS has fantastic openers.... New Again isn't one of them. That and Cut Me Up Jenny are trash but the rest of the album is great. New Again is definitely better than anything they put out after it.
OK thread topic.. The Used self titled IS a certified classic, objectively

Fred was the best thing that happened to TBS.
Kicking out Branden was the worst thing that happened to The Used.

Quinn too in a way. Blue and Yellow was written about him in a way if i remember correctly too

I did enjoy Artwork, it still had that weird frenetic style they exhibited on their first two, anything after that was poop IMO. Branden did make that band though. They weren't writing those first two albums without him. I think what sunk them even more was Bert losing his voice. They sound awful live these days.

Artwork really is great. When i think about it there is maybe just two songs id skip and i never really liked Blood on My Hands but other than that it is all good stuff. Sold My Soul, Empty With You and Kissing You Goodbye always stuck with me

I would've included Quinn too but I think the songwriting went downhill while he was still in the band. I think the original lineup could've still made good songs even with Bert's voice being what it is although Bert has some terrible lyrics these days.

From the live clips I’ve seen, Bert sounds like he’s phoning it in on the old tracks. I know he can’t scream / harsh much anymore but he seriously is going through the motions. Has made me hesitant about going through the full playthrough show of this coming up.

They've been running on fumes since Artwork.
In losing Branden and Quinn they lost all their songwriting chops. This lineup at this point in history was absolute key. Right people at the right time with John Feldmann at the top of his game. I mean it was inevitable they would go downhill from here. Even In Love and Death aged quite poorly, and the exact same people worked on that record.

In Love and Death has aged poorly [2] half the tracks are so cringe

Eh I still like it. There are a few cringe ass songs.I didn't even care for Cut Up Angels when it came out and hard to say is pretty generic but overall I still like it.
I've never been a fan of John Feldman. Thank God the songs on self titled and to a lesser extent In Love and Death are so well written to overcome his generic ass production. Artwork being their only good album after those two and not being produced by Feldman isn't a coincidence. Lies for the Liars had some decent to good songs on it but overall it's a mess. I didn't even listen to the proceeding two outside of singles so I assume those albums suck just as hard.

Funny cause I was about to say half of In Love in Death fucking rules but I skip most of the other songs (the slower ones generally).
It's cool some more casual fans felt hype seeing The Used announce the full albums tour but it made me sad thinking how good it would be if it was 2005 and not 2025.
