Phil is so much more savage live, and he’s already fucking savage in the studio

I’m still gonna maintain my original position on this: Cowboys is the best Pantera in terms of songwriting prowess, and this one’s the best in terms of atmosphere and intensity

Cowboys is fun, but I'll always be a Vulgar Display-Far Beyond Driven-Great Southern Trendkill kinda guy
Those 3 albums are auto-gym albums for me, prob top 3 gym albums of all time

I injured my rotator cuff when I was listening to strength beyond strength and decided to go for a PB bench 20kg heavier than usual

I understands how some would see it as boring redneck metal but I’ve come to love them because I’ve realise that nobody else really sounds remotely like them (exhorders is closer to thrash bands) , there’s actually quite a bit of experimentation going on, there’s an energy that’s very rarely matched and makes you feel... powerful, Phil’s lyrics cover themes like drug addiction, hatred of religion, non conformity, child abuse and nothing like typical southern music themes, they were very tight live and often sounded better than their studio records and could get the crowd into a frenzy like few other bands could, and I’m not sure why but their music has insane replay value.

Floods has always been one of my favorite rock/metal songs. Every since I was in like 7th grade. Just an incredible track, I’ve never found anything like it

It's weird too because in theory what they do should be pretty easily replicable but nothing comes close to matching their vibe... not even the side projects. One of a kind vocalist. One of a kind guitarist. One of a kind rhythm section. All in one band.
Wouldn't say they have an album better than a 4 (this is prob the best album) but their best 90 minutes of material is up their with anyone's.

Yeah I just wish they continued on the trajectory of getting heavier and more experimental with each release - Reinventing the steel felt a bit tired and conventional even though their performances around the time were beastly. It had some decent riffs but it lacked the spirit that the earlier albums had. Oh well, glad we got this much. Phil died for a few minutes after overdosing around the time this album came out so it’s a wonder they kept it together as long as they did.

Jeez this just gets more intense every time. One of those albums that decades later you can look back on and see just exactly what these guys were feeling at the time. Such intensity… and Dimebag, not much more I can say that hasn’t been already said. Phil is a monster too

Yea totally, their sound comes off like the average “90s heavy metal” sound, yet nobody sounds like them. Guess it just goes to show how influential they were, but nobody could replicate it

Idk what type of kids listen to Pantera these days. Probably more likely to be music nerds than dumb fuck frat boys and cousin fuckers since they haven’t been relevant in over 20 years.
I did once match with a beddable broad who said she liked Pantera but she never replied when I asked her to rank every song in Panteras discography including their glam metal albums >
