yeah pretty much. you guys are acting like I said drumming is completely devoid of value or something. I’m just saying it’s usually not super integral. how many bands do you know that fell apart because they lost their drummer? and how many because they lost a singer or guitarist or pianist etc. I can’t think of any albums that I dislike because the drums suck but the melodies are great. and I can think of many I love even though the drums suck because everything else is awesome

not all music is milquetoast sowingcore

again there r entire genres of music where the make or break factor is the percussion

if u meant that drumming is the least important aspect of milquetoast sowing core then u should have said that

“ implying that 'other instruments' being able to draw on access to rhythm and dynamics in the most general sense makes them meaningfully comparable to the role percussion plays in the majority of arrangements is such facile case of shit gymnastics that i feel my fingers are going to fall off just from paraphrasing it. you are literally saying that the ability to produce quavers loudly and then quietly makes a drumkit '''in some way''' interchangeable with a harp”

theyre not interchangeable obviously but I think more directly melodic instruments can provide more of the core components of good music than drums can. otherwise why do you pretty much never hear albums that are just drums and vocals

I think a lot of the best drummers would agree that most of the time, the role of a good drummer is to accentuate the rest of the composition instead of standing out as one of the primary elements
