most of those arent even sludge and the ones I heard (ufo, aelter, huata, and ehnahre) are solid but not anything special.

Ha early mastodon was more sludge than most of those bands so yea. Since when are doom, stoner, and death/doom considered sludge i mean come on potsy i asked for trve sludge and you gave me a bunch of doom.

my point is even if there is some good sludge made now its mostly just rehashing the past that was done better then. there arent exactly many sludge bands that are doing anything exciting to me. at least mastodon is willing to try new things instead of stay trve and boring. now i obviously havent heard every sludge release and its never been my fav genre or anything but it just doesnt strike me as a creative haven of ideas post 2010.

potsy dont you have a bunch of baroness, torche, and kylesa albums 4d or higher or am i imagining things since when are you against the more poppy side of sludge/stoner or whatever

mixing sludge, doom, and/or stoner metal isnt exactly breaking crazy new ground tho potsy. the genres are pretty closely related. i just think its funny how you attack mastodon for being faux sludge then go on to list a bunch of albums that are less sludge than they are lol. but its all good man ill give a listen to bisento and bruja and get back to ya.

Alright you're not gettin the last word after comparing me to insurrection ya bastid.

Firstly Im not twisting anything. I was pretty clear in saying sludge is dead. You replied it wasnt. I asked for great new sludge albums. You gave a bunch of doom and then proceed to say that there isnt anymore pure sludge. WELL HOWDY HO THAT PROVES MAH DAMN POINT.

Secondly bands mixing between sludge, doom, and stoner has been going on since the 90s. Its not anything new and the bands you listed are definitely not anything new, so I wouldnt expect some grand new genre to appear anytime soon.

Lastly I think this is on the same level as Harmonicraft, Spiral Shadow, and other recent poppier sludge/stoner albums. Theres no way to me if those albums are 4s that this is a 2.5. But opinions will be opinions and shiiiiit.

rwake and thou disagree with your premise that sludge is dead. and what exactly defines "pure sludge"?

rwake and thou good bands good choices. those are more like it but still they dont add anything new really.

there just comes a point with most genres where they die man. no shame in it. theres still hundreds of thrash albums coming out every year nobody cares about cuz it died in 92. just like post-punk died in the late 80s, alt rock in the late 90s, prog rock in the mid 70s, and so on. unless they're adding new twists to the genre then it will die creatively. people rag on post-metal but it did revitalize some sludge ish sounds for a while until that died too since every band just rips off neurisis.

i AM half joking though. there are still good sludgy albums coming out. its just not many of them are really doing anything that different or progressing the genre. i feel that way about alot of current metal though. the last development in metal was fuckin djent so rip metal.

as for "pure" sludge you're right there were never that many 100% sludge bands.

the best I can think of are like eyehategod, acid bath, iron monkey, buzzoven, crowbar, grief, and noothgrush or

somethin.

most sludge does mix with stoner, post, and/or doom.

i was just asking for bands that were mostly sludge or where it was the primary genre.

potsy's bands were mostly doom so you iight.
