i only dig him on the first two - three albums before he wrecked his voice, anything after that he sounds mostly like shit to me

Realy? I think he's a great vocalsit. Although I will agree that his voice was at it's best on the first 2 albums.
I also really like his vocals on live recordings (The Song Remains The Same and How the West Was Won).

maybe it's just cos i'm comparing early performance to later stuff but like the raw POWER of his screams on the first album to the flimsy helium wails on, say, the song remains the same, just kind of irk me for some reason
i still dig his lower stuff on the later records like no quarter etc just the screams went from awesome to irritating know what i mean

i love his vox personally, but my friends hate him(along with every classic rock singer)
