I’ll never quite understand it when people put Rubber Soul or Revolver over this or Abbey Road. The White Album is more of an outlier so I’ll give em that (but it’s my personal favorite), and RS and Rev are certified classics, but they just took everything to the next level with each new release (I’d say the same about placing RS over Rev)

maybe it’s due to the variable strength of tracks on the albums (Come Together>>>>Oh Darling, or A Day in the Life >>>> Good Morning GM) but it’s not like the earlier albums didn’t have the same problem except arguably worse. Who tf cares about The Word/Run for Your Life/Good Day Sunshine and then there’s Yellow Submarine lol, I’d take even I’d take the weaker tracks from Sgt and AR (even Maxwell’s Silver Hammer) over any of those tracks every day of the week

I think people remember the best stuff more than the worst. albums are judged on their highs not their lows. and I can totally see people saying that albums like Revolver, Abbey Road, White Album etc have higher highs than this

maybe I’ll give ‘em Sgt Pepper too it is pretty quirky. But Abbey Road has everything good that they’ve been building in their sound distilled into a perfect package. At least 5 of their strongest, most developed songs. I adore songs like Michelle, Norwegian Wood, Here There and Everywhere but they do not nearly have as much going on as something like Here Comes the Sun, yet it hits just as soft and subtle. It’s extraordinary what they were able to accomplish late in their career.

well this has a pretty distinctly different sound than Abbey Road I would say. Abbey is a lot more grounded, it's more of a rock album than a psychedelic album. but I think the reason some people rank Sgt Pepper lower than some of their other most acclaimed albums is just because it relies more on its concept and theme and for some people those things just don't do much for them. and for those people, they might gravitate towards albums with more memorable standouts

I think Come Together and Here Comes the Sun are my favorite Beatles songs. Call me basic but I think the “basic” Beatles taste is pretty much fact, other than the schmoes who only like twist and shout

they had a good amount of "basic" on all their albums really. basic is fine when it's held up by good songwriting. Come Together and Here Comes The Sun both have good songwriting even if Come Together has always felt overrated to me. songs like Lucy In The Sky are basic but also have weaker songwriting imo, just because of how the way the verse flows into the chorus and back again feels kinda jarring. not completely cohesive

A Day In The Life is the clear highlight, aside from that it's hard to point to any examples of individual songs that are better than the best individual songs from their other classics

the first and last one you just named are pretty great. She's Leaving Home arguably the second best song here

you know as I'm typing this I would actually say this is a good bit better than Rubber Soul at least

I also don’t get why people don’t like within you without you, that’s another standout for me
