Alright, sorry. You're right. I have been acting pretty immature on this thread as of late.

" I hate that kind of separationist bullshit"

of course it's been exacerbated by the Scottish independence referendum

"Irish name? Is it something with "O" or "Mc"? "

nah it's more obscure than that. I think it actually has roots in French, and in Arabic if you go even further back

and Mc is just scottish

Well, considering the stuff that England has been pulling as of late it's somewhat understandable. Especially with the whole "WE'RE LEAVING EUROPE BUT STILL WANT ALL THE BENEFITS!" thing. Also, well - y'know the whole historical background of pretty much just annexing Scotland. (although they should probably also calm down)

sounds like a cool name.

i guess it doesn't help that historically my family's pretty conservative working class (ie. the kind of people that get taken in by national socialist style bullshit propaganda) and it's only recently that they've risen economically

lol that's hilarious cos that's exactly what England's accusing Scotland of, though tbh I haven't been

following the UK's feud with Europe cos so much of it is propaganda fuelled and i just don't care

anymore

oh know they're making us throw all the funny bananas away! let's bail on the whole alliance!

sounds like a cool name.

The French equivalent is "Hazard" which sounds so much better

My family isn't really anything traditionally, but my family is also way too large to actually keep track of. Closer family is similar, others are businessmen, some are academics, some were even officials. Ironically I can have much better conversations with the ones I barely see.

Idk, I doubt much is gonna happen in that direction. To me a lot of that just seems like a series of political stunts to appease the people and not lose any more votes to the fringe groups.

"oh know they're making us throw all the funny bananas away! let's bail on the whole alliance!"
haha.

Sounds pretty cool, actually.

I considered at some point just changing to my family name as mononame since barely anybody actually uses my first name.

So, there's a national referendum scheduled in Scotland in a little over a month.

People have been all gung-ho about secession for years. Mostly they don't have any concrete ideas as to how to realistically do that without causing gigantic damages, though. (recent examples: Greece, England, Italy, Scotland, partly even Germany)

England and Scotland have their own vendettas against one another, Ireland broke off a while ago....... What about Wales?

I don't really like making predictions but here goes: Well, there's a few options - it could stay at simply that - a vote that doesn't really amount to anything because nobody has any actually plans as to pull through. (or it will be stalled by bureaucracy and negotations) They will go through and have some plans as to do so, will probably remain a member of the EU and will have to sort out their relationship with the U.K. or they could secede, stay afloat for a while and then go back on it if it doesn't work.

I mean I'm not saying it can't work, it's just gonna take quite a bit and if the Scottish are as implemented in the UK economy as the UK is in Europe's it won't be rosy for them if they can't have the benefits of that without any compensation for that.

nationalist sentiment in Wales doesn't manifest itself as strongly as in Scotland

Makes sense. Doesn't Wales have their own language? Or did they stop speaking that a while back?

yeah but it's not very widely spoken. think only 20% of the country speaks it. doesn't stop the local government trying to encourage it and making all the roadsigns bilingual though

Nah, they do. Although if you think you could easily understand everyone in GB you're probably thinking wrong. There's still a bunch of people around that speak some very Gaelic stuff (rural Ireland specifically from what I gather). Plus the myriads of dialects that can range from "you sound like a peasant" to "can you repeat that sentence like another 5 times?"

Old English is ridiculously difficult to read, so I can't even fathom how difficult old Welsh or Irish languages must be to translate.

Not just the old stuff. As I said, dialects can get pretty heavy too.

True, true. Hard to believe that such small areas in terms of land mass have such a huge amount of diversity amongst their people.
