Damn, didn't realize it was only a 3.5 avg.
Counterpoint: A majority of the Sput userbase has shit taste.

The only record i have a hard time liking from their first phase is Starless and Bible Black. The first four songs are great, after that it just sounds like an overlong jam improv session (which it basically was, from live recordings even i think)

"I'd say Floyd is better personally"

I understand that's your personal opinion, but Floyd in my eyes are just different. Their achievement is that they manage to single-handedly create a sound that can be appreciated by almost anyone. Even those who don't like prog music. I have countless friends who adore PF's music, yet they never heard of bands such as King Crimson, Yes, or Genesis.

King Crimson's case is so much different. Their music is more chaotic, eclectic and some times, more personal. And they're more proggy (even though you can't really measure it).

"Sput can't handle the jazz perhaps?"

Eh, I wouldn't say that. I doubt it's the Jazzy element that put people off Islands. It's lot calmer and sparse than their other albums. It's actually quite pretty and calming, whereas most of their albums are dark.

Anyone who likes Islands should check out Centipede. They only released one album, but share a lot of names with the Islands album.

I've never heard it Ghandi, just read there was a more significant jazz leaning... So mere speculation on my part that perhaps they had dialled back the rockisms and it wasn't what people expected.

Yeah, it definitely dialled back on the rock. (Though it has a misogynistic Beatles tribute song)

It doesn't have the high energy jazz rock of something like Schizoid Man.

For it is mostly the mood and the ascending/descending guitar lines

Though of course they are known to be a big influence on Carrey

KC influenced everyone who attempts to play progressive music. They're the Black Sabbath of prog rock imo
