Oh wait, yeah you're right. My bad.

Actually, on another listen it almost feels like an after-death reflection.

"Think I've been stopping by too much, don't want you to get sick of me" hits fucking hard in "Headstone"

The part in Empty Glass where Derek screams TELL ME ABOUT THE OLD DAYS while being nearly drowned out by the music is amazing, I love how it ties in to I Don't Mind.

I agree that the new album is somewhat recycled lyrically.

Empty Glass/I Don't Mind is the best part of this album by a long shot.

The new album is their best work to date hands down, its obvious. It's not recycled, the lyrics are all part of the story so they flow that way.

@North - I agree, that 2 song combo is my favorite part of EDSN

I don't know what it is about the new Defeater album that just dosen't drag me in like the others do. Been spending more time listening to I Am Alaska and Architects than Defeater.

Yea I gotta admit, it'd cater a lot more to the listener if they did something subtle, like had a mumbled train sound fade out after music cut off, or ended it in static or something. Idk if that would just cheese it up though. Plus the perspective is from the brother, so if dead, he wouldn't be hearing shit. However, if it's confusing to enough people then you've kind of lost the artistic battle - you want people to understand your point or everyone loses.

If you listen to it loudly, right before it cuts off you can hear the train coming...it's pretty clear from a car stereo...

I agree that the new album is somewhat recycled lyrically.

It's called inter-textuality, having thematic motifs is not recycling...ie, they use the "again and again and again" music part from travels in warm blood rush's chorus, then pay heed to the fact by repeating the again and again part at the end of the song...it's not recycling if there's intention behind it, which there clearly is...
