Only recently started listening to these guys. They're quite exceptional. Not sure which album I like better, though.

A mate showed me songs such as Lifelike and Shutterspeed from Themata, I liked them but never really looked much more into them. Decided to relisten on youtube, and found a link to New Day, heard it and WOW it blew me away!! So I instantly went and bought Sound Awake, gave it a listen, and fell to sleep. Went to Themata and that grabbed me for the next 2-3 months. My mate had got Sound wake and on a drive put it on.. and I thought hey this is starting to sound alright. Gave it more listens, and after my 5th listen it started to become really good.... then EPIC. Now it is my favourite album of 2009, and probably my favourite of all time, eclipsing Tools Lateralus and Imago by the Butterfly Effect. Vool is now my all time favourite band!! I didn't much like Umbra, Caudral Lure or Illumine at first, but they have grown on me at last. Change, Deadman, New Day, Set Fire to the Hive and Goliath are my faves. Vool are coming in June to Sydney, CANNOT WAIT!!

Haha entertaining. Good video
Kenny looks so... awkward.. its like he doesn't know what to do on stage, he's being outshined in moves by Sudderth

Very Paul d'Amour in terms of bass.
Reminds me of Undertow a lot, but much more atmospheric.

This album is consistantly more disappointing every time I listen to it.

Really? How come? I though it was a huge grower personally...

It just gets more and more boring with every listen (and I'm talking months apart at this stage too). There is no energy to this album, Kenny sounds bored himself and thus there's no real emotion in any of it either. Just so...blah.

I could definitely see how you could say that compared to something like Themata that was more raw and full of energy. While the production on this is pretty stunning from an engineer's perspective, it did go a little overboard and sap some of that raw emotion (esp. from the vox).
I'd have liked to hear a few cracks and wavers to let me know that he's human (i'm looking at you, ATDI).
That said, I can't get over how amazing of a job the producer and engineers did on this. Augh *slinks back to studio to practice*

"We should have known better not to taste this wine we swallowed", "Politics, religions, your vision's the same"..... IIIIII hear plenty of energy and passion. Maybe you're just not into this form of passion or expression of it.

Good review and I couldn't agree more. And I also think Change is the best song I've heard for a very, very long time. Can't wait to see it live! 5/5 for me.

perfect song. 10/10.
i'll have to give this album yet another chance to grow.

I'm with the Capt. I just couldn't get in to it as much as Themata. The emotion did seem to lack a fair bit, unfortunately.

Whole album still rules one year on.
Also, holy fuck at them selling out 2 melbourne shows and almost a 3rd already.

I may see them, finally. They're coming in July. I'd kinda rather see Birds but the 'vool would be cool too.
