Can we talk about how amazing The Avalanche and Springfield are off of the outtakes?

As much as I disliked Age of Adz when it came out (haven't listened to it since), this is such a great record.

This album as a whole doesn't vibe with me a whole ton, but once in a while I absolutely need to hear "Come On! Feel the Illinoise". Part 2 in particular is just absolutely transcendent. If I liked the rest of the album half as much as that song this would be an easy 5. Maybe someday...
I cried myself to sleep last night...

I have a similar experience where Palisades and Casimir are like two of my favourite songs and the rest of this is like boring as heck

I guess the issue is just that there's so much here and instead of being able to bask in all of it I just latched onto the first song that stood out to me and quickly realized that that was all I ever needed from this. Though John Wayne Gacy is also truly amazing in its own right. The rest is never really bad exactly but it just kind of goes in one ear and out the other for the most part.

Oh yeah John Wayne Gacy is a great song for sure. This album is padded harder than a sumo wrestler though, soooo much filler

Yeah this is bloated. C&L makes for a much much better front to back listen, even though it's less varied than this.

Decatur, The Man of Metropolis, and Night Zombies are the only actual songs on here I could foresee being called filler, the rest is amazing

This finally entered the top 100 albums on RYM (not including live and archival) and I'm so happy about it

I'm kinda surprised the RYM crowd rates this so high tbh.

It's like perfect though. I know you don't agree.
It's so varied, yet so well put together. Gives you breaks in between main songs to really capture you in the essence of the work as an album and not a collection of singles. Plus the breaks are not boring. Like Black Hawk Down is amazing.

I mean I think my relatively low opinion of this is more a personal thing, I do understand why people adore this, I meant that more in the sense that this doesn't seem like the kind of thing RYM would rate as high as it does. They give it what, a 3.98 or something like that? I'd think it'd be more of a 3.80 or so for them. Idk what I'm saying rn.

I love me some Carrie & Lowell for sure. I've still only heard this and that (and Silver and Gold).

Probs yeah.
I should probably have this another chance, I've probably only listened to it front to back like 7 times

It's a lot to absorb in a single sitting. That's my main issue with it.

Idk my best memories of this were listening to it in full while driving 7 hours to NYC by myself and loving every minute
