canada have voivod, the best band on the planet
|
| |
yeah ill give quebec some props
|
| |
canada has the only not-ass-ugly city in the entire americas in quebec city so thats something
|
| |
nola, charleston, chicago, and to a lesser extent boston r all cool architecturally
|
| |
you know ive actually been to charleston and i found the downtown area pleasant enough so ill temper my hyperbole next time
|
| |
but ya american cities are mostly ugly as shit and its only getting worse. all of the beautiful old art deco skyscrapers are being overtaken by repulsive skinny glass towers that nobody will actually live in

I'll never understand why anybody wants to live in the heart of a city in general
|

speaking of shitty how was your LA trip

"I'll never understand why anybody wants to live in the heart of a city in general"
walkability/not having to rely on cars, close to things to do like venues/museums/etc, probably closer to where you work than being out in the suburbs, often less socially isolating
"speaking of shitty how was your LA trip"
amazing but thats mostly because of joshua tree lol. LA itself is basically what i was expecting except honestly the homelessness was worse than what i've seen in SF, but maybe i just didnt go to the "right" places in SF for that. i didnt go to the tenderloin for example but i have a hard time believing it would be worse than skid row considering just how massive of an area skid row is. pretty shocking stuff to me, and i say that as a new yorker.
but outside of that LA is pretty cool and honestly felt really culturally different than what i know as someone who lives on the east coast. those street taco stands are the fucking shit. the beaches were not that crowded since the weather wasnt great but that was honestly a plus. driving sucked obviously. looking out over the city on mulholland drive at night was beautiful

how the fuck is an entire ass head of cabbage only 15 g of fiber

I live in LA and it is honestly the worst place I've ever lived in. (in my 30s btw). the homelessness issue is completely unchecked. the prices of everything from gas to food to housing is beyond outrageous. and generally lots of the tourist attactions are just dumps.. hollywood is a dump, downtown is a dump, venice beach is a dump, the santa monica pier is pretty run down. westwood is run down. and on and on. This is the most overrated city on earth in my humble opinion.
(Im from NY and have lived in NYC, upstate NY, Canada, Idaho, Virginia, and Rome)

but at least we have cool taco stands.... /s

LA just feels way too spread out and not walkable enough to be a place that's enjoyable to live in. i know you can't really beat NYC for those things in the US but damn LA is like the polar opposite. i did like visiting tho
|
| |
i straddle the line of IE / LA county and i dont love it but i dont hate it as much as fox news (growing up in socal was cool though bc shows and beers on the beach)
as far as im concerned paradise is brittany and the further you get away from brittany the closer you are to hell

Yeah, I can imagine it being a half decent place to visit if you aren't really going to spend much time having to make it work here (but that's probably true for anywhere) or are going to just go hiking or something, but I've been here for 9 months now and its truly dreadful.

I had the impression the homelessness was worse in SF? It's bad here obviously espically in Skid Row, but its a visible problem in every neighbourhood except I guess if you live up in the hills or in a gated community in Beverly Hills or something, but its honestly everywhere, Culver City, Santa Monica, Westwood, Brentwood, you name it.
