it's not watered down because it's more accessible. the songwriting is miles ahead of this album honestly

a lot of the songs on here are basically them taking one idea and stretching it out into a song. HOLV actually flows beautifully and never gets bogged down by any one thing

"Heaven or Las Vegas is a watered down populist version of their sound so that's understandable. You might like Four-Calendar Cafe"

I don’t understand the hype for this album. I listened to it multiple times and for me the songs seem too unpolished, unfinished and raw. It seems more like a practice room demo tape. I miss real definition here.
For me, I really prefer the later records of CT as they are more defined and polished. It’s the kind of style of Cocteau Twins most people are used to also for me it’s how I keep Cocteau Twins in my mind

Having gone on to listen to CT's later stuff per Gandhi's condescending advice, I'd have to agree with you

Ahh hmm. Now I get it. Probably it’s because of that darker, more 80s gothic-esque vibe here.

The rawness in my opinion oddly makes it more beautiful
I love Heaven or Las Vegas, but it’s polishedness does make it lose a little something something

Worst production I ever heard on an album. It's blurry and hazy and not in a good way at all.

@Ars it also gives a little something. So probably it’s more about what kind of CT you are used to or you personally like more.
I see the older records as more dark, inaccessable, mysterious, gothic-like etc. The later records are more catchy, uplifting, easy and comfortable. So it probably depends which kind of direction you like more.

Lol. The thing is I can listen to this record on my mobile and can assume that it’s 100% quality

So true Ars. They struck gold here with that balance. It's one of the main reasons for how addicting this is for me.
