Will I enjoy this if I didn't think much of the Tool albums before or after it but really wish I could like this band more?

This album is catchier than Aenima and Lateralus, so there's that to it... other things you might want to know: Maynard sounds cooler than ever before, the lyrics here are slightly downgraded from their usual standard, but they're more intimate.

What? No, it's the exact opposite. While Aenima had great and Lateralus excellent production, 10,000 Days sounds more like radio metal, everything is kind of compressed, you can hear a lot of clipping artifacts, the sense of space is chocked by the overall lack of dynamic range. It's not terrible, but I'd say it still sounds immediately worse than their previous albums. I'd only give it points for how saturated and alive it sounds, I mean, slightly more textured guitars and umph-ier bass.

Fun question: when did you first realize Vicarious is THE Tool song? I did when I heard it live, the song was so much better than all Aenima and Lateralus tracks it wasn't even funny.
